The Portuguese candidate

O Delfim (The Dolphin) by Fernando Lopes will represent Portugal in the best foreign film category at next year’s Oscars.
Based on the novel by José Cardoso Pires and starring Alexandra Lencastre and Rogerio Samora, O Delfim is the story of a Portuguese family of aristocrats and is set in the 1960s.
According to Portuguese daily newspaper, “Jornal Noticias”, O Delfim, released domestically in April 2002, was seen by over 40,000 filmgoers.
The five official nominees for the 75th edition of the Oscars will be announced on 11 February 2003 and the awards ceremony itself is scheduled for 23 March at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
