Capuano and Scimeca in Toronto

La guerra di Mario ('Mario's war') by Antonio Capuano and Passione di Giosuè l'ebreo ('the passion of Joseph the Jew') by Pasquale Scimeca have been selected for the 30th , which will runs from the 8th to the 17th of September. Both films will be screened within the main section, 'Contemporary World Cinema'.

La guerra di Mario, produced by Indigo Film and Fandango is distributed by Medusa Film (sales: The Works ). This modern family drama has already earned the young actor, Marco Grieco, a special distinction in Locarno. Pasquale Scimeca's film deals with a completely different period: it is set in Spain in the 16th Century, when Muslims and Jews were expelled from of the country. This film, produced by Arbash Società Cooperativa and Poetiche Cinematografiche and supported by Eurimages, the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Spanish ICC, will be brought to the Italian public by Istituto Luce (sales: Adriana Chiesa Enterprises). It will also be presented at the forthcoming Venice Days.

There are two other Italian productions in Toronto, all sections included: the collective work All the Invisible Children, directed by Stefano Veneruso, and the short Site Specific_ Roma 04, by Olivo Barbieri. Co-productions abound: Gabrielle by Patrice Chéreau, Mary by Abel Ferrara, L'inferno by Denis Tanovic, Grönholm Method by Marcelo Piñeyro, Les amants réguliers by Philippe Garrel, Live and Become by Radu Mihaileanu, and The Sun by Aleksandr Sokurov.
