The End of the Goldenstern Era at Arte

- Co-production analyst George Goldenstern leaves France´s Arte Cinema after 15 years and over 300 films

The film department of Franco-German cultural TV network, Arte is experiencing a profound transformation after the retirement of veteran manager, George Goldenstern after fifteen years as chief co-productions and screenwriter analyst and ardent film lover. Arte, one of Europe´s most active supporters of auteur-driven cinema and Goldenstern was instrumental in greenlighting over 300 feature films and «discovering» and many of contemporary European film´s new masters including Lars Von Trier and The Waves of Destiny, Nanni Moretti´s Dear Diary, Mathieu Kassovitz La haine and more recently, Aki Kaurismaki´s The Man with no past. Goldenstern nurtured numerous young talents to such a degree that fully one-third of features co-produced by Arte France Cinéma were directorial debuts. «I knew people like Arnaud Despleschin (who just finished making La vie des morts), Femis-graduate François Ozon and Pascale Ferran when they were «just kids,» said Goldenstern who, we are convinced, will have no problem whatsoever finding a new job in the film industry.
