by

A tragic comedy about how to avoid making illusions is Vera Chytilová latest film, Hezké chvilky bez záruky (no official working title in English), which starts filming in Prague 13 October.
The film is about Hana, a psychologist, who tries hard to solve her clients´ problems. They come from all walks of life and suffer from problems at work, job insecurity, conflicts with colleagues. They are afraid they will fail due to external pressures, too much responsibility, and depression caused by being overburdened by repetitiveness and boredom. And she is in the midst of it all…

Chytilová, 76, admits she is tired and a lot older than when she was in her peak at the 1960 and 1970s. But she also admits that she cannot stay away from filmmaking. She worked on the script of the film with a real psychologist, Katerina Irmanová, for four years. The film, she says, is a result of their careful labor.
She has also considered a proposal to turn it into a trendy TV serial instead but, she says, she did not have to think much as her love for cinema prevailed.
Hezké chvilky bez záruky stars Jana Janeková, Bolek Polívka, Jana Krausová and Igor Bares. It has a budget of only € 600,000 and it is produced by Czech TV and Negativ (Something Like Happiness, Champions, Wrong Side Up). It will be distributed by Bonton Film. Its theatrical release is planned for autumn 2006.
