FESTIVALS Portugal

DocLisboa awards Chantal Briet

The third edition of DocLisboa awarded French Chantal Briet's Alimentation Générale the Grand Prix Doclisboa Odisseia for the best feature documentary (5.000 €); in ex-aequo with Before the Flood by Yan Yu and Li Yifan (China).
Produced by Ludovic Arnal for Yenta Production, Alimentation Générale focuses on a little store, a unique meeting place for the locals. More than simply filming the customers, Briet's camera reveals their daily stories and bares their souls.
The jury - composed of Tue Steen Müller (director of EDN), Ross McElwee (USA), Teresa Villaverde & Augusto Seabra (Portugal) and Anna Glogowski (France/Brazil) – also awarded Samagon by Eugen Schlegel & Sebastian Heinzel (Germany) with the Grand Prize docLisboa Jameson for the best short documentary (3.000 €).
This year's edition of DocLisboa was success, attracting nearly 20.000 documentary lovers and consolidating the festival as one of the most important film events in Lisbon. With several screenings sold out, it is possible that in 2006 there will be extra venues, mentioned Ana Isabel Strindberg, director of DocLisboa.
