Isild Le Besco and Philippe Ramos with Arte Cinéma

Three new co-production projects were selected by Arte France Cinéma, the network’s film division, whose committee sat last Friday. Among the happy chosen few were Charlie by Isild Le Besco and Capitaine Achab (Captain Achab) by Philippe Ramos, but also Les Méduses (Medusas) by Israeli Etgar Keret, a minority French co-production via Les Films du Poisson.

Produced by Sangcho, Charlie, the second feature from actress Isild Le Besco afterDemi-tarif (Half fare) in 2003 includes in the cast Julie-Marie Parmentier (starring in Sheitan with Vincent Cassel – released in France on February 1st) who plays a prostitute and the young Kolia Litscher in the role of a hitch-hiker. Shooting for the film, which has an Advance on Receipts from the National Film Centre (CNC) will start at the beginning of 2005.

Another second feature selected by Arte France Cinéma and also recipient of an Advance on Receipts from the CNC, Capitaine Achab (Captain Achab) by Philippe Ramos reunites Denis Lavant who plays the main character as an adult, Dominique Blanc, Niels Arestrup, Isild Le Besco, Catherine Mouchet, Jean-François Stévenin and Mathieu Amalric. Telling in five parts the story of the hero of Moby Dick and only time it crosses the story of the famous book by Herman Melville is at the end of the film, Capitaine Achab (Captain Achab), produced by Sésame Films (who produced the first feature by Philippe Ramos, Adieu pays (Goodbye, country) in 2003) will begin shooting in May 2006.

The committee for Arte France Cinéma (8,5 million euros of co-production investment and pre-sales in 2004) also renewed three members, actress Sylvie Testud for a period of two years, rejoining the six permanent members, among them Jérôme Clément, Michel Reilhac, Andreas Schreitmüller, Gilles Jacob and Francis Girod.
