Spain and France on show
European cinema plays one of its best trump cards this week in Belgian theatres to take on the third episode of the adventures of Harry Potter, directed by Englishman Mike Newell.
Following its screening FestCEAL, Ferpect Crime by Alex de la Iglesia is in the theatres, distributed by Coopérative Nouveau Cinéma. This black comedy, which flays every part of our society, with cut-up bodies, with macho Latino man transformed into an object of desire and with the ugliest of dictatorships, is a co-production between Spain (Pánico Films, Sogecine) and Italy (Planet Picture), sold internationally by Sogepaq. The other comedy of the week is the third film directed by French actress and comic, Valérie Lemercier, Palais Royal !, distributed by Les Films de L'Elysée.
In a totally different vein, Victory Films brings Je ne suis pas là pour être aimé (I am not here to be loved) to the screens, by Frenchman Stéphane Brizé (article) with a masterful actor, Patrick Chesnais, but who is unfortunately normally confined to secondary roles. With Le Bleu des Villes in 1998, Stéphane Brizé showed his talent, and a humour full of finesse and melancholy. Produced by TS Productions, Je ne suis pas là, which tells the story of the renaissance of an ordinary fragile man, was a success with the critics and was nominated for the prestigious Louis Delluc Prize.
