Willkommen Germany!

German star Til Schweiger will open the 8th Festival of German films in London on 25 November with his romantic comedy Barefoot [+see also:

among the top domestic films of the year in Germany. The film about a self-indulgent bachelor and an innocent young woman taking off on a road trip and setting the most unlikely love story in motion, will also be presented to Londoners at the Curzon Cinema by its lead actress Johanna Wokalek and producer Tom Zickler.

Until December 1rst, as many as 20 feature films and documentaries will screen as part the festival, many of which introduced by their filmmakers such as festival favourite One Day In Europe by Hannes Stöhr (read the interview) to be released in the UK by Peccadillo Parasol Releasing, the feature debut of Robert Thalheim Netto, Katerina Peters’ documentary film Stoke, or Gordian Maugg’s closing film Zeppelin!.
As part of the documentary programme, Christopher Buchholz and Sandra Hacker will be on hand to present Horst Buchholz…My Papaabout one of Germany’s screen legends, which will screen with Tiger Bay, Horst Buchholz’s first English-language film.

Documentary filmmaking and co-production will also be the subject of the industry event on the 28th to be attended on the German side by Lutz Hachmeister, director of The Goebbels Experiment, Amy Hardie, director of Docspace, HW Pausch from Contect TV Production and Carl Ludwig Terringer, MD and producer for Lichtblick Filmproduktion.

Another major feature of this year’s German Festival is the presence of world renowned cinematographer Michael Ballhaus (The Age of Innocence) who will give a masterclass on the 26th, co-organised with the UK Script Factory, the National Film & Television School in association with the Goethe Institute in London.
