Banderas returns to Malaga

by

After his Hollywood directorial debut in 1999 with Crazy in Alabama, Antonio Banderas is back behind the cameras with El Camino de los Ingleses (The road of the English). Announced as a coming-to-age tale set in the late 1970's, the film is based on the award-winning novel by the Spanish writer Antonio Soler, who also wrote the script.

"There is something of me in the novel and in the film. I am interested in that emptiness that puts an end to adolescence" stated Banderas. However, it doesn't matter how much the eternal chico Almodóvar sees his youth reflected in his new project, the plot is, still according to him, universal and extemporal: "The group of teenagers, who are the muscles, the heart and the soul of the film, are not interested in the world. They live in an extemporal bubble and their problems are also extemporal. That's why it is not a nostalgic film and today's youth may reflect themselves in those crises". Alberto Amarilla, Félix Gómez and Marta Nieto are the newcomers in a cast which also includes former Banderas' counterpart Victoria Abril and Juan Diego (The Seventh Day).
