, All stars) is currently finishing the Dutch leg of the shoot of his new film Wild romance, about the early years of Dutch rocker Herman Brood. After having wrapped in Groningen and Amsterdam, Van de Velde will start shooting in the United States at the beginning of next year.

Actor Daniël Boissevain, a Van de Velde regular, plays the lead role in the film which will focus on the years between 1974 and 1979. The self-professed rock ’n roll junkie was discovered in these years by Koos van Dijk, who would become his manager. The film will chronicle their relationship as they go from virtual unknowns to a local rock and roll phenomenon; they dream of becoming famous in the USA. , Simon), whilst actress Karina Smulders will have a cameo as German punk singer Nina Hagen, with whom Brood had a relationship. The title is a reference to the name of Brood's accompanying band.

Wild romance is produced by M4ALL with financing from commercial broadcaster RTL, the Dutch Film Fund and the private investment opportunity Film-CV. It will be released by Independent Films Nederland in November of 2006, five years after the death by suicide of Brood, who jumped of the roof of an Amsterdam hotel; it is also the month in which he would have turned 60.
