Viva Zapatero! in Spain, France and Belgium

After a successful theatrical run, Viva Zapatero! is coming out on DVD. The documentary by Sabina Guzzanti, on the limits imposed upon the freedom of satire in Italy, has been in Spanish cinemas since December 2, distributed by Golem Distribución. The rights to the film, distributed in Italy by Lucky Red, were sold by French sales company Wild Bunch to a number of countries. In France, the film will be brought to screens by Haut et Court starting in mid-December and in January the film will be released in Belgium (Cinéart-Cinélibre) and Holland (A-Film Distribution). The film is also scheduled to be released in Switzerland, in the French and German canons, by Frenetic Films. Rights have also been sold to Australia.

The goal now is the U.S. and the film will get its chance at the upcoming Sundance Festival where Viva Zapatero! has been selected to compete in the World Cinema Competition: Documentary section. The film, which grossed more that 1.7m euro in Italy, was presented at the 2005 Venice Film Festival and received three awards at the Italian Film Festival of Villerupt.
