Pepe Danquart unbound

by

At fifty years old, the famous Austria director Pepe Danquart is completing Am Limit, last part of his sports trilogy. After the documentary Heimspiel (2000), which followed a year in the life of the East-Berlin hockey team, and Hell on Wheels (o.t. Höllentour), a report on the 2003 Tour de France, Danquart is now focusing on rock-climbing.

Am Limit depicts the adventures of two brothers who share a passion for rock-climbing and whose ultimate challenge is the "El Capitan", the most dangerous peak in Yosemite, California. Like the first two parts of the trilogy, this movie is not about sport as such but about childhood and the limits of our freedom as well as our possibilities. It also probably echoes the rebel filmmaker's old memories from the time he used to play with his twin brother.
