Alberto Iglesias competes with The Constant Gardener

Obaba may be absent from the Best foreign language film category, however Spanish talent assures its presence at the Hollywood Academy Awards ceremony with Alberto Iglesias competing for the Oscar for the Best Original Score (The Constant Gardener [+see also:

Born in the Basque country in 1955, Alberto Iglesias entered the world of film in the early 80s, composing the music from Paisaje and Ikusmena, two short films directed by Montxo Armendáriz. The transition to feature films happened in 1984 with Imanol Uribe's but international recognition came in the 90s thanks to his collaboration with Julio Medem (Vacas in 1992, Land in 1996, The Lovers of the Arctic Circle in 1998 Sex and Lucia in 2001) and Pedro Almodóvar (since The Flower of My Secret in 1995 until Volver [+see also:

, to be released this March). The original soundtrack of The Constant Gardener by Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles Iglesias' fourth collaboration with a non Spanish director, following that with Portugal's José Fonseca e Costa (Balada da Praia dos Cães), and America's John Malkovich (The Dancer Upstairs) and Oliver Stone (Comandante).
