Marta Balletbò-Coll wins Créteil

by

Sévigné by Spanish director Marta Balletbò-Collhas won the Jury Grand Prize for Best Film at the 28th Women’s Film Festival in Créteil, following in the footsteps of another Spanish filmmaker, Iciar Bollain (the 2004 winner for Take My Eyes), and Italy’s Cristina Comencini (The Best Day of My Life, 2003).

Produced by Costabrava Films, the company founded by Balletbò-Coll, Sévigné follows the misadventures of a famous Barcelona theatre director, who is caught up in an affair and decides to put on a play based on the life of Madame de Sévigné. With characters that include a respected critic husband, a charming lover and director of the National Theatre and a very feminine and impulsive playwright, the film reveals the behind-the-scenes of the Barcelona artistic world. This is familiar territory for Balletbò-Coll, who has been called "the Spanish Woody Allen", and who wrote and stars in the film, alongside Anna Azcona, Josep Maria Pou and Eduard Farelo.
