Protocol for Iberian co-productions
by Vitor Pinto
Portugal's Cultural Minister Isabel Pires Lima and her Spanish counterpart Carmen Calvo have signed a co-production protocol between the two Iberian countries in Madrid.
Portugal and Spain will follow measures aimed at enhancing more co-productions between their film industries. Such films will be supported by Spain's ICAA and Portugal's ICAM and, according to Pires Lima, there should be a least one per project financed each year.
A second protocol was also signed, aimed at creating a biannual Luso-Spanish Award for Arts and Culture, to recognise the work of a Portuguese or Spanish personality who has contributed to promoting the cultures of both countries. The winner of the first edition will be announced in October and the awards ceremony will take place in Portugal in early 2007.
