A worldwide Soap

Trust Film Sales has just announced that a dozen territories have acquired Pernille Fischer Christensen’s Berlin Festival hit A Soap [+see also:

These include Italy (Teodora Film), the US (Strand Releasing), Benelux (A-Film), Romania (Independenta Film 97), Brazil (California Films), Colombia (Cinemac), Mexico (Cine Video), Venezuela (Blanco & Travieso), Singapore (Overseas Movie Distribution), Thailand (Mongkofilm) and Taiwan (Cineplex).

Cesare Petrillo from Teodora Films in Italy said about the film: “A Soap will be an excellent follow-up to the current slate of Danish releases after the enormous success of Inheritance and Brothers [+see also:

. The Italian art-house audience has proved very faithful to Danish films in recent years. A Soap is a gripping, breathtaking drama about two people who discover another form of love. Teodora Films will release it this summer just after Manslaughter [+see also:

”.

A Soap won both the Silver Bear/Grand Jury Prize and Best First Feature Film at the last Berlinale, and last Friday, during the opening night of the NatFilm Festival in Copenhagen, Fischer Christensen also received the Natsværmer Award (€3,350), given each year to a talented, young Danish filmmaker who has made a valuable contribution to Danish film.

A Soap was produced by Lars Bredo Rahbek for Nimbus Film as part of the New Danish Screen support scheme launched last year by the Danish Film Institute (see Cineuropa news). Nordisk Film will release it in Denmark on April 7.
