Mackenzie directs Hallam Foe

Production has begun this week on David Mackenzie’s Hallam Foe, starring Jamie Bell, Sophia Miles, Claire Forlani and Ciarán Hinds. The fourth feature film by Mackenzie, following Asylum [+see also:

, Young Adam and The Last Great Wilderness, was written by the Scottish filmmaker together with Ed Whitmore, and is based on a novel by Peter Jinks.

The film is a magical story of redemptive love, loss and life on the rooftops of Edinburgh. Young Hallam is almost over the sudden death of his mother when he begins to suspect that his beautiful stepmother may have had a hand in her death, and it doesn’t help that Hallam fancies her rotten. Fleeing his step-mum, he arrives in Edinburgh, where he falls in love with a gorgeous girl who happens to look just like his mother.

Hallam Foe will shoot for six weeks on location in Edinburgh and Peeblesshire, and in studios in Glasgow. It is being produced by Sigma Films and Lunar Films, with co-financing from FilmFour, Scottish Screen , Glasgow Film Finance and Ingenious film Partners.

UK distribution will be handled by BVI UK and international sales by Independent Film Sales.
