CANNES 2006 Selection

A 20th contender for the Palm

The feature film Cronica de una fuga by Uruguay’s Israel Adrian Caetano received a surprise promotion, announced yesterday by the organisers of the 59th Cannes Film Festival (May 17-28). Two Thirty 7, the debut feature by Murali K. Thalluri, will wrap up the Un Certain Regard selection. Thalluri, a 21 year-old Australian filmmaker, will benefit from more than flattering buzz. Moreover, German protests following their “eviction” from the Official Selection seem to have been heard by the Festival’s direction, who will be generous enough to show a special screening of the short by Wim Wenders made in Cannes in 1982 (Room 666), followed by the Holger Ernst’s debut feature The House is Burning (a Reverse Angle Pictures production). Another screening in honour of French actress Danielle Darrieux will take place on May 24, with the preview of Nouvelle chance by Anne Fontaine.
