The Emden festival – which each year attracts over 20,000 visitors – has not left out other territories, screening a total 102 films from 19 countries. The Netherlands and Belgium are also well represented in competition.

Aside from the five awards given at the end of the festival, Emden will bestow Oscar-winning actor/screenwriter/director Maximilian Schell with a lifetime achievement award. The festival will also feature a retrospective of his films, including Murder on the Bridge (1975) and Marlene (1983).
