Joachim Trier’s Reprise competes in KV

After a historical presence in Cannes, Norwegians will again be well represented at the upcoming Karlovy Vary Film Festival (June 30-July 8) with Reprise, the directorial debut by Joachim Trier, competing in official selection, Jens Lien’s The Bothersome Man [+see also:

, screening in the ‘Another View’ sidebar, and filmmaker Bent Hamer, who will be on the main jury.

Norwegian-Danish director Joachim Trier is a graduate of London’s National Film & TV School. His 2002 short film Proctor won both the Best British and Best European short film at the Edinburgh Film Festival. He describes his feature film debut Reprise, which he co-wrote with Eskil Vogt, as a "playful film about friendship, madness and creativity, love and sorrow, great ambitions and the often unpleasant clash between youthful presumptions and reality."

The film, starring Espen Kloumann Høiner and Anders Danielsen Lie, is produced by Karin Julsrud for 4 ½ Productions, with Sweden's FilmLance International as co-producer. It will open in Norway on September 8 through Columbia/Nordisk Film Distribution, and Nordisk Film International Sales is handling world sales.

The film’s director, co-writer, two main cast members, composers Ola Fløttum and Knut Schreiner and producer will attend Karlovy Vary from July 1-4, together with The Bothersome Man’s director Lien and producer Jørgen Storm Rosenberg. The Norwegian Film Institute will be represented by Astri Dehli Blindheim and Stine Oppegaard from the institute’s International Department.
