Regina Pessoa's film vies for Cartoon d'Or

After the Cristal Award for Best Short Film at the Annecy Animation Film Festival (see news) and numerous screenings at other international film events, Regina Pessoa's História Trágica com Final Feliz (lit. "A Tragic Story With a Happy Ending") is now vying for the 2006 Cartoon d'Or, the award for the Best European Animation Film.

Produced by Abi Feijó's Ciclope Filmes, Pessoa's latest film is competing against Joanna Quinn's Dreams & Desires - Family Ties (UK), Guillaume Delaunay's Nocturne (France), Saschka Unseld and Johannes Weiland's Olis Chance (Germany) and Oury Atlan, Thibaut Berland and Damien Ferrié’s Overtime (France). The winner will be announced on September 23 at the end of the Cartoon Forum, which will take in Pau-Pyrénées, France.

The jury is composed of Didier Brunner (France), Michael Dudok de Wit (UK) and Portuguese director José Miguel Ribeiro, who won that same prize in 2000 for his film A Suspeita.
