On September 15 in Italy, Fandango will release Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross’s The Road to Guantanamo [+see also:

film profile], the ex aequo Silver Bear winner for Best Director at the 2006 Berlinale.

The film – which tells the true story of three young English Muslim men who were captured by US forces in Afghanistan, accused of being members of Al-Qaeda, taken secretly to the Guantanamo prison camp and set free after over two years of terrible interrogations, without ever being charged – has been sold to over 35 countries by Works International. The €1.8m project was originally conceived as a television film and was produced by Revolution Films for UK broadcaster Channel 4.

The fantastic adventure of eccentric activist-ecologist Timothy Treadwell, who in 1990 decided to move to Alaska to live with grizzly bears, is told by master German filmmaker Werner Herzog in the passionate documentary Grizzly Man, which has picked up numerous awards in the US and will be out in theatres on November 10.
