Nearly 68m filmgoers in 7 months

Nearly 68m people visited Spanish film theatres since the beginning of the year through August 6, according to data recently released on ICAA's website.

Figures show that the most successful month so far was January, with a little over 11.36m admissions. They also show a decreasing trend from April, with June registering the lowest admissions (just over 7m), not including August figures (2.48m), which only take into account the first six days of the month.

When it comes to box office results, US productions were the most successful among Spanish filmgoers, with The Da Vinci Code leading box office charts (€25.6m). The Top 5 also includes four other American films, with the US hegemony broken by Volver [+see also:

, which appears in the fourth position of the list. Almodóvar's latest opus has already attracted over 1.8m cinemagoers and has grossed €9.7m to date.

Domestic production grossed €32.6m, with over 6m admissions for the 264 local productions or co-productions screening in Spanish theatres.

A total of 682 European titles garnered over 14m admissions and grossed over almost €73m. This is the equivalent to 20.60℅ of the market share, whereas the share of US titles is at 77.54℅ (just over 52m admissions, almost €274m grossed).
