Nietzsche in the limelight

Jacob Thuesen, the acclaimed director of The Accused, this week started shooting his new film, Erik Nietzsche: The Early Years, already pre-bought by Lucky Red in Italy and Les Films du Losange in France.

Thuesen’s second feature stars Søren Pilmark (King’s Game), Troels Lyby (The Idiots), David Dencik (A Soap [+see also:

) and newcomer Jonatan Spang in the leading role. It is based on scriptwriter Erik Nietsche’s own experience at the National Film School of Denmark in the 1970s. He enters a world of angry unhelpful tutors, weird fellow students and unwritten rules, and chooses to abandon his idealistic values to gain fame and recognition as a world renowned film director.

) and Marie Gade (Dear Wendy) for Zentropa Entertainments19 (Denmark) in co-production with Memfis Film (Sweden), Dor Film (Austria), SVT Sweden, Film i Väst, Lucky Red and Tju Bang Film, with support from the Danish Film Institute, Austrian Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute, DR Denmark, the Media Programme and Eurimages.

Danish distribution will be handled by SF Film and world sales by Trust Film Sales.
