by French director Martial Fougeron received the Golden Shell for Best Film ex aequo at the closing ceremony of the 54th San Sebastian International Film Festival, held last Saturday night in the Kursaal centre.

Ghobadi – who was the biggest surprise of San Sebastian 2004 edition, winning the Golden Shell for Turtles Can Fly – repeated his success with Half Moon, which he produced for his Tehran-based company Mij Film, in co-production with Silroad Production (Paris), New Crowned Hope (Vienna) and the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq. Half Moon also picked up the Best Photography prize.

Family drama My Son is Fougeron's directorial debut (see news). Produced by Frédéric Niedermayer for Moby Dick Films, in co-production with Why Not Productions, the film also saw its leading actress Nathalie Baye receive the Best Actress Silver Shell for her turn as a domineering mother.

Spanish veteran actor Juan Diego was awarded the Silver Shell for the Best Actor for his performance in Victor García León's Vete de mí (see news). The award, the only one attributed to a local production, was no surprise, as Diogo had been singled out from the start as one of the favourites for the prize.

Other awards from the official section went to non-European titles: Carlos Sorin's El camino de San Diego (Argentina) won the Special Jury Prize and US title Delirious saw its director-scriptwriter Tom Dicillo pick up the Silver Shell for Best Director and the Jury Award for Best Screenplay.
