Starring Thierry Toscan, Alessandra Agosti, Dario Anghilante and Giovanni Foresti, The Wind Blows Round tells the story of a French shepherd who leaves the Pyrenees to settle in an Alpine village where the Occitan language is still spoken.

Other prize-winners at Annecy this year include: Don’t Make Any Plans for Tonight by Gianluca Maria Tavarelli (shown in Venice’s Horizons sidebar this year), which took the Special Jury Prize; Under the Same Moon by Carlo Luglio (Special Mention); Night Before Finals by Fausto Brizzi (Audience Award); and Andrea Rovetta’s The Shoes (Special Mention from the CICAE jury).

Winning actors included Chiara Nicola, who took Best Actress for her performance in Francesco Amato’s What I’m Doing Here!, while Gigio Alberti was voted Best Actor for his role in 4-4-2: The Most Beautiful Game in the World, directed by Michele Carrillo, Claudio Cupellini, Roan Johnson and Francesco Lagi.

The award winners confirm Annecy’s pioneering role as several of these films have yet to find distributors in Italy.

The Savoie event also featured a vast panorama of out-of-competition films this year (see news). Particularly well received was Kim Rossi Stuart’s Along the Ridge [+see also:
