Definitely Maybe shooting for Working Title

Adam Brooks, who has been working on several Working Title films as a scriptwriter (including Wimbledon, Bridget Jones: the Edge of Reason [+see also:

), is now also directing a new film for the prolific UK production company. Starring Rachel Weisz, Definitely, Maybe is another romantic film based on his own screenplay.

The film, which started shooting last week in New York, is the story of Will Hayes (Ryan Reynold from Smokin’ Aces), a Manhattan dad in his 30s, in the middle of a divorce. When his 10-year old daughter Maya, who doesn’t know her real mother, unexpectedly asks him about his past, he starts telling her about the past six years of his life, when, as a an aspiring politician, he moved from Wisconsin to New York to work on the presidential campaign. He also tells his daughter about his three most meaningful relationships, and begins to think it might not be too late to go back.

Other key members in the cast include Derek Luke, Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers), Elizabeth Banks (The 40 Year-Old Virgin) and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine [+see also:

). The film is produced by Working Title’s co-managing directors Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.

Meanwhile, Joe Wright’s second film with Keira Knitghtley, Atonement, has now finished shooting. The film, set in the hottest day of the summer of 1935, is based on a script by Christopher Hampton. It also stars James McAvoy, Brenda Blethyn and Vanessa Redgrave. The release through UIP is set for 2007.

The next Working Title productions to hit UK screens are Paul Weiland’s family film Sixty Six, starring Helena Bonham Carter (opening on November 3), and the psychological thriller Gone (previously known as Middle of Nowhere) by first-time director Ringan Ledwidge (December 15 release).
