DFI climbs aboard Flame & Citron

One of the most expensive Danish films in many years, Ole Christian Madsen’s DK45m (€6m) period film Flammen og Citronen (Flame & Citron), produced by Nimbus Film, has just received DKK 10.8m (€1.4m) in support from the Danish Film Institute (DFI).

Set in Copenhagen in 1944, the film, based on true events, tells the story Lemon and Flame, two legendary resistance fighters charged with liquidating informers. By order of their commander, they consent to killing Germans as well. But when Flame is asked to execute his girlfriend Ketty, an enigmatic Stockholm courier, he questions his orders. Who is Ketty really? In the struggle for Danish freedom, all zones are grey and the lines between freedom fighters and terrorists become increasingly unclear.

Co-written by Madsen and Lars K. Andersen, the film is being produced by Lars Bredo Rahbek (A Soap [+see also:

) of Nimbus Film and co-produced by TV2 Danmark and MBB Berlin Brandenburg in Germany, with support from the Danish Film Institute, the Nordic Film & TV Fund and Eurimages. Shooting will take place from March 5 to May 31, 2007 in Denmark, Prague and Germany. The Danish release through FilmFolket A/S is scheduled for early 2008.

Madsen is currently promoting his latest film, Prague, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Stine Stengade, which will be released this Friday by Nordisk Film in Denmark.
