Danish director Natasha Arthy has started shooting Aicha, a Nimbus Film production co-produced with Yellow Bird in Sweden and co-scripted by Arthy and Nikolaj Arcel (director of King’s Game).

Aicha is Arthy’s third feature film following Miracle (2000) and Old, New, Borrowed and Blue (2003), a Dogma-certified title that won several international awards at Moscow and Karlovy Vary.

The new film, which started filming at the end of October, is the story of Aicha, a high school student less inspired by school – which her Turkish parents want her to attend – than karate. Defying her family, she starts secretly training at a professional karate club where a Danish boy, Emil, helps her train for the club championship and they fall in love. But the rules of life are not as simple as those of karate.

Produced by Johnny Andersen for Nimbus Film, the film was just awarded DKK 8.7m (€1.17m) in subsidies from the DFI - Danish Film Institute. Other investors include DR TV in Denmark, SVT in Sweden and the Nordic Film & TV Fund. FilmFolket will handle Danish distribution at the end of 2007.
