Kinepolis brings gaming to the big screen

by

XL Gaming, the new concept from Belgian exhibition group Kinepolis, was unveiled on Saturday at the cinema in Bruges.

XL Gaming allows video game enthusiasts – either alone or in groups – to rent a screen for 30-minute gaming sessions for a small charge. Gamers can bring their own games or choose those offered by the cinema.

The Bruges Kinepolis, which opened on July 7, has eight theatres all equipped with 2K projectors, films and digital channels, following an agreement signed with Barco and Technicolor Digital Cinema, which aims to digitalise all Belgian complexes (131 cinemas) by 2007 (see news).

XL Gaming is the latest concept in digital applications and is based on CLP Cinema technology. In addition to the offer of alternative programmes, such as live concerts, sport competitions or television series, cinema theatres can now be rented either to screen a film of one’s choice or play several video games.
