Rotterdam’s Cinemart takes 46 projects on board

The CineMart co-production market, which will run January 28 January – 1 February as part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), has selected 46 independent film projects for its 2007 edition. The eclectic mix includes established filmmakers such as Kim Ki-Duk and Arnaud Desplechin, as well as relative newcomers and debut filmmakers, who all hope to find production partners at the IFFR.

Organisers received a staggering 520 projects for consideration, again showing that the first co-production market still remains one of the most important. The selection includes promising talents, including Fabienne Berthaud (Frankie [+see also:

, Belgium, see interview), as well as newcomers such as Jörgen Bergmark (Sweden), Nicolas Provost (Belgium) and Esther Rots (Netherlands).

Tiger Award-nominated directors returning to Rotterdam in 2007 are Spain’s Isaki Lacuesta (2006’s The Legend of Time, see interview), Czech filmmaker Bohdan Sláma (Something Like Happiness [+see also:

The CineMart also includes a new edition of the Rotterdam Lab, a four-day training workshop for young and emerging producers aimed at building up their international network and experience at an international festival and market.

Arte France Cinéma will award two CineMart Projects with €10,000 each, while The Prince Claus Fund Film Grant of €15,000 will be given to the best CineMart Project from a developing country.

CineMart is supported by the MEDIA Programme, the City Development Corporation (Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Rotterdam), the Dutch Ministry of Culture and the Dutch Film Fund.
