When Darkness Falls selected for Panorama

Anders Nilsson’s new thriller När Mörkret Faller (When Darkness Falls) will screen at this year’s Panorama Section at the Berlin International Film Festival (February 8-18).

An habitué of the genre – with films such as Zero Tolerance (1999), Executive Protection (2001) and The Third Wave (2003), all co-written and produced by Joachim Hansson for Sonet Film – Nilsson’s sixth feature film has a more complicated structure, with three stories linked by the theme of threat.

There is Carina, a journalist, Aram who runs a restaurant and Leyla, the eldest daughter in an abusive family. All live in fear and have to make a decision: keep their dark secrets or tell the truth and face the consequences.

The film has been nominated in four categories for this year’s Guldbagge Awards (local Oscars): Best Director, Best Script, Best Actress (Oldoz Javidi) and Best Supporting Actor (Peter Engman).

The Sonet Film production was co-produced by Film i Väst, TV3, the Swedish Film Institute, as well as Multimedia Film und Fernseh and Film Förderung Hamburg in Germany. Sonet, who handled domestic distribution last October, is also handling of international sales.
