The title swept up no less than four awards, for Best Script (Kraus), Best Actress (Monica Bleibtreu), Best Young Actress (Hannah Herzsprung) and Best Production (Meike and Alexandra Kordes). The film, set in a women's prison, evokes a relationship between a retired pianist and a young musician, both of whom are forced to get along despite their relative circumstances.

The jury also presented a special award to Joseph Vilsmaier and Dana Vávrová for their film, The Last Train.

The final prize of the evening, the Lifetime Achievement Award, went to Dutch director Paul Verhoeven.
