Nearly 900 professionals are expected in La Rochelle today, for the fifth edition of the IInternational Digital Film Forum (IDIFF), the only European event exclusively dedicated to digital cinema.

Until Thursday, the Digital Film Market, a market of content for cinema screenings, will be well underway, while debates will discuss new developments and take a look at the future technologies increasingly used in production, post-production, distribution and exhibition (see article and interview with IDIFF co-ordinator, Etienne Traisnel).

A conference will he held on Wednesday afternoon by Belgium Wallimage funds director Philippe Reynaert (see interview) on the theme of "Digital HD et investissements défiscalisés: ça tourne au pays de Benoit Poelvoorde et Cécile de France" (“Between HD digital and tax exempted investments: The country of Benoit Poelvoorde and Cécile de France doesn’t sit around”).

Alongside digital preview screenings of Olivier Dahan’s La Vie en Rose [+see also:

film profile] and Julien Séri’s Scorpion [+see also:

film profile], one of the new events at IDIFF this year is Préparer son Tournage (“Preparing Your Shoot”), which brings together a vast range of investors and service providers involved in filmmaking: production studios, talent spotting and casting agencies, film commissions, financial bodies, equipment rental companies, production directors, first assistants and cinematographers.

Exhibitors at the event include Quinta Industries (Studio Duran Duboi, LTC and Scanlab), the Eclair Group (Eclair Digital Cinema, Eclair Laboratoires, GTC and Télétota Barco), Thomson (Grass Valley and Technicolor), Sony, Panavision, Cinemeccanica, Panasonic, Digimage/LVT, TPX, Dalsa, Post Logic and XDC.
