A new international film festival dedicated to independent cinema and new technologies has been founded in the Campania region. The Drake International Film Festival (DIFF) will be held in the beautiful Reggia di Caserta and Real Sito di San Leucio from June 23-30, 2007.

Festival sections will be divided among 12 world premiere films in competition (the Best Film Award carries with it a €20,000 prize), out of competition titles (six features) and First Work, an international competition of a maximum of six first and second films. There will also be an Italian Film Market, a full-fledged market intended to facilitate exchanges between producers and distributors.

There will also be a retrospective and award dedicated to Massimo Troisi, with whom director Francesco De Lorenzo, the festival’s founder, worked at the beginning of his career. DIFF’s Artistic Director will be Laura Marcellino, who oversees the Industry section of the Venice Film Festival, with which she has been working for over 20 years.

The festival is financed by De Lorenzo’s production and distribution company Darkness Production Ltd, along with the Caserta-based company Tamarin, and is currently relying solely on private sponsors, emphasised De Lorenzo, who, however, prefers not to divulge the festival’s budget.
