"The very strong buzz generated at least three offers for each territory," commented head of sales Sébastien Chesneau. This remarkable performance also marks the promising debut of Paris-based production outfit Polaris (Thierry Potok, Christophe Mazodier and Hubert Toint).

3L Filmverleih GmbH & Co.KG will distribute the title in Germany through a co-production, while Rezo Films will handle its French release.

Rezo also sold some potential Cannes contenders at the market, notably German helmer Volker Schlöndorff’s Ulzhan, starring the Swiss-born David Bennent (The Tin Drum) and France’s Philippe Torreton and scripted by Jean-Claude Carrière. Pre-sold through a promo reel at Berlin, rights to the film have been acquired by Arthouse Movies for Latin America and negotiations are well underway with Italy, Benelux and Japan.

Other titles picked up by Arthouse include Eric Rohmer’sLes amours d’Astrée et Céladon [+see also:

(see article). The title has already found takers in the UK (Artificial Eye), Italy (BIM), Spain (Alta Films) and Belgium (Victory Films).

Lastly, the screening of Zhang Lu’s Desert Dream in the final days of official competition did not prevent the Korean title from being snapped up by several territories, including Spain (Golem) and Hungary (EEAP).

Negotiations on Alexander Sokourov Alexandra for Italy and Portugal are in the final phase.

Such buoyant activity paves the way for a busy Cannes Film Market for Rezo, with the outfit keeping other surprises in store and hoping for a repeat of good business, following last year’s success with Jade Warrior [+see also:
