FFF gives €2.7m support to six new features

The Finnish Film Foundation (FFF) has granted a total of €2.7m to six new feature films, including She-Wolf by Aku Louhimies and Maria Larsson’s Everlasting Moment by veteran Swedish filmmaker Jan Troell.

Set in Finland during the 1918 civil war, She-Wolf focuses on a young, idealistic infantryman of the White Guard who saves a Communist fighter who has been gang raped. He falls in love with her to later discover she is the commander of a Red Guard platoon.

The director of Frozen Land will start filming on March 26. The €1.5m film produced by Aleksi Bardy (Helsinki Filmi) was awarded €550,000.

Troell’s new epic saga Maria Larsson’s Everlasting Moment, set in Sweden in the early 1900s, is based on the true story of a young working-class woman who wins a camera in a lottery and begins to see the world through new eyes. The film – starring Maria Heiskanen, Mikael Persbrandt and Jesper Christensen – will shoot from February 26 until June 1.

Final Cut in Denmark is producing with Göta Film (Sweden), Mothlys A/S (Norway) and Blind Spot Pictures (Finland). The €40,000 grant from the FFF will go towards the film’s €4.7m budget. Trust is handling world sales and Sandrew Metronome the film’s Finnish distribution.

Other films include Peter Lindholm’s love triangle Three in Love, which starts shooting on March 20 for the director’s company Petfilms Oy; Lauri Nurkse’s romantic comedy Playing Solo, produced by Fantasiafilmi and sold internationally by Nordisk; Stormheart, the new family film by Kaisa Rastimo (Hayflower & Quiltshoe), set to start shooting on April 11; and Markku Pölönen’s The Matriarch, produced by Suomen Filmiteollisuus and starring Peter Franzén, which will begin shooting this month.
