- Canal+ reassures the film industry about the fate of StudioCanal's film archive. It will not be sold off

The meeting between French film industry operators and the heads of Canal+, the country’s principal source of investments in the film production sector, went very smoothly. Canal+ president, Xavier Couture, announced that the company’s 5000-title archive will not be sold. Canal+ has yet to decide whether or not StudioCanal will continue producing feature films, or limit itself to undertaking co-productions, a system that would facilitate the satellite channel’s acquisition of new titles and the consequent strengthening of the film archive. Canal+’s decision to speed up presale acquisitions for 2002 (for up to 95 films) restored serenity to France’s film industry operators after the uncertainty of the summer, but doubts remain about the future intentions of Canal+’s owners, Vivendi Universal.
