Piracy alarm bells

- The growing number of black market copies in circulation are giving cause for concern to Spanish industry insiders

FAP – Spain’s Federation against piracy is worried about the increase in recent weeks in the number of black market prints of major films in circulation mainly in DVD form. During September, the authorities confiscated illegal copies of the most recent releases and numerous video games.
The Spanish industry reacted immediately by summoning the heads of their leading film, audiovisual and videogames sectors to an emergency meeting at the FAP headquarters to try and find a solution. FAP and the industry would like to see more stringent and punitive legislation introduced, and for the Spanish public to be made more aware of the intrinsic dangers that a prolonged presence of black market audiovisual piracy causes both to the industry and its knock-on effect on Spain’s national economy.
