The Czech film Year of The Devil by the director Petr Zelenka was awarded The Grand Prix - Crystal Globe at the 37th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2002. Petr Zelenka, one of the most popular Czech directors, found inspiration for this highly original «mystification» at a concert headlined by singer-songwriter Jaromír Nohavica and the band Čechomor. The German film Nowhere in Africa was awarded with the Special Jury Prize and with the Award of International Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
The jury, presided by the French actor Jean-Marc Barr, also awarded the director Asghar Massombagi´s film Khaled, the young Icelandic actress Ugla Egilsdóttir for her role in the film The Seagull´s Laughter (by the well known Icelandic director Ágúst Gudmundsson) and the actor William H. Macy for his role in the film Focus.
The best documentary film under 30 minutes is the film Village B. directed by Filip Remunda and the best documentary film over 30 minutes is Daughter from Yan´an directed by Japanese Kaoru Ikeya.
