Spada wins Best Director at Mar de Plata
Director Marina Spada picked up the Silver Astor for Best Director at the Mar de Plata Film Festival (March 8-18) for As the Shadow (Come l’ombra). The film, which premiered last year in the Venice Days section of the Venice Film Festival (see article), was the only Italian film in competition at the Argentinean festival this year and shared the ex-aequo award with Woman on the Beach by South Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo.
As the Shadow, produced by the Ombre Cultural Association in association with Film Kairòs, previously won the Critics Prize at the Montpellier Film Festival and Best Actress (Anita Kravos) at the Mons Film Festival in Belgium and was selected at numerous international festivals, including Toronto (in the Discovery section), London, Antalya Golden Orange, Hamburg, Villerupt, Sulmona, Goa, Kerala, Kennai Premiers Plan (Angers) and Goteborg.
In light of the many awards the film has obtained, producer Francesco Pamphili of Film Kairòs this morning announced that an agreement was reached with state distributor Istituto Luce for the film’s Italian release in May.
