Germany wins two Astors at Mar del Plata

The 22nd Mar del Plata Film Festival (March 8-18) has awarded two Silver Astors to German artists.

Sandra Hüller received the Best Actress Astor for her role in Madonnas while Dito Tsintsadze and Zaza Rusadze won Best Screenplay for The Man from the Embassy.

Maria Speth’s Madonnas, a Pandora co-production, screened in the 2007 Berlinale Forum sidebar and is being sold internationally by The Match Factory.

Tsintsadze’s film – co-scripted by Rusadze and produced by Tatfilm – recounts how the daily routine of an employee at the German embassy in Tbilisi (Georgia) is turned upside down when he forms a friendship with a young refugee, Sashka.

The film – which won actor Burghart Klaußner a Bronze Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival last year – is being sold by Sola Media.
