The winners of the 10th Diagonale

The Diagonale Austrian Film Festival (March 19-25), which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, drew to a close in Graz on Sunday with the presentation of awards worth a total €120,000 (the highest sum ever given by Austria).

took the Feature Film Award (including €15,000 in prize money), which threw up no surprises as the tale on urban youth told through four closely linked stories in a semi-documentary and unglamorous style was one of the hotly-tipped favourites.

Erwa’s feature debut was produced by Novotny & Novotny Filmproduktion.

The Documentary Award went to Peter Schreiner's echt.zeit.film production Bellavista, a black and white documentary about a modern woman who returns to her native village in the northern Italian linguistic enclave of Sappada.

The newly created Audience Award was presented to Mirjam Unger's documentary Vienna's Lost Daughters on eight New Yorkers who fled from Vienna as children during WWII (a Mobilefilm production).

Andrina Mracnikar's documentary produced by Gregor Centner, Der Kärntner spricht Deutsch (lit. "The Carinthian speaks German"), picked up the Youth Jury Award, while Barbara Albert's Falling [+see also:

(Coop 99 filmproduktion) and Anja Salomonowitz's documentary It Happened Just Before (Amour Fou Filmproduktion ) were both presented with Cinematography awards.

Antonin Svoboda's Forever Never Anywhere [+see also:

(coop99 filmproduktion) and Elisabeth Scharang's documentary Meine liebe Republik (Wega Film) both won Editing awards.
