Snowboarder – described by Rosenberg as “Karate Kid on a snowboard” – tells the story of 15 year-old Mikkel, who moves from Oslo to mountainous Vestlandet (in southwestern Norway), where snowboarding is the rage. Mikkel is an excellent skateboarder and quick to learn on the snow, but he knows that to be accepted by his new schoolmates he has to become the best. Stormare plays Mikkel’s mentor.

The €2.6m film, which just started filming, is produced by Rosenberg for Rubicon Film & TV in co-production with Medie Parken in Norway and with support from the Norwegian Film Fund.

As Rubicon’s new head of Drama, Rosenberg is also supervising the editing of Nils Gaup’s ambitious epic film The Kautokeino Rebellion. The NOK 54m (€6.6m) film, made simultaneously as a four-episode television series for NRK, is co-produced with Boeralis Production (Norway), Filmlance International (Sweden) and Metronome Productions (Denmark), with support from the three Scandinavian film institutes.

“The film won’t be ready for Cannes so we will aim for another big film festival”, said Rosenberg. No sales agent has yet been appointed for Gaup’s second film, which pays tribute to Sami culture and history, following his acclaimed Pathfinder.
