The Danish Film Institute (DFI) has just awarded production support to two animation projects: Anders Morgenthaler’s children’s film The Apple and the Worm, produced by Copenhagen Bombay, and Rejsen Til Saturn (Journey to Saturn), produced by A.Film.

film profile] is a “fruit road movie” in which Torben, a beautiful apple whose dream to win a fruit competition is crushed by the arrival of a worm, Silvia, in his shiny flesh. Together with his friend Newton, he puts together a risky plan to get rid of Silvia. Co-written by Morgenthaler and Marie Østerbye, the project was awarded DKK 5.5m (€737,755) by the DFI.

Journey to Saturn, based on a classic Danish comic strip story by Claus Deleurans, will be adapted for the screen by Nikolaj Arcel and Rasmus Heisterberg (who co-scripted Island of Lost Souls [+see also:

film profile]) and directed by Craig Frank, Thorbjørn Christoffersen and Kresten V. Andersen.

The 3D animation film received a DKK 5.8m (€777,996) grant from the DFI and will be produced by Trine Heidegaard and Anders Mastrup for A.Film, Scandinavia’s biggest animation studio, behind Terkel in Trouble [+see also:

Both The Apple and the Worm and Journey to Saturn will be ready in 2008.
