NonStop takes Gangster aboard

NonStop Sales has just picked up international rights for Steve Aries Aalam’s Swedish thriller Gangster, ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Film Market (May 16-26).

Starring Mikael Persbrandt (Day and Night) and Kjell Bergqvist (Evil), the noir tale of love and revenge tells the story of Antonio (Peter Gardiner), who works for gangster boss Thomas Steel (Persbrandt) and whose future looks bright until he is ordered to kill a person close to their circle.

The film marks the directorial debut of Aalam, who has worked as an actor, producer and/or writer on several films directed by action film specialist Peter Lindmark (9 Millimeter, At Point Blank, Exit). Daniel Collert produced the project with Aalam for Isis Cataegis Pictures and Scanbox Entertainment is handling distribution in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The film opened in Sweden on April, 27 and is currently the fourth most popular title at the local box office after Spiderman 3, Wild Hogs and Mr Bean's Holiday [+see also:

NonStop Sales will screen another six titles at the Cannes market, including Johan Kling’s Darling [+see also:

, the Swedish hit at the last Göteborg Film Festival; Danish western Pistoleros by Shaky González; Björn Br Björnsson’s Icelandic hit Cold Trail; and the Irish supernatural thriller Ghostwood starring Patrick Bergin.

Company representatives in Cannes will include sales manager Michael Werner and sales executives Judith Toth and Karin Thun.
