Arn conquers buyers

Epic title Arn: The Knight Templar has been Svensk Filmindustri’s event film during Cannes, with distributors invited to view a promo-reel of one of the most expensive projects ever made in Scandinavia (with a budget of over $30m).

The film’s stellar cast was in town last Monday to support to promotion of the project, from Stellan Skarsgård, Vincent Perez, Sofie Helin to newcomer Joachim Nätterqvist, and the distributors reacted positively to the first 10 minutes of the epic movie on Swedish crusader Arn Magnusson.

SF, who shares sales with Telepool, said deals were closed with Thailand and Vietnam while negotiations were continuing with Korea, Brazil, China and Benelux. The “Swedish Braveheart” should be ready for Toronto or the RomeFilmFest according to Ann-Kristin Westerberg, SF’s head of international sales.

(over 250,000 admissions) was the only film screening at the market and deals were pending with Turkey and Australia.

From Norway, two local hits caught world buyers attention: the animated film Elias (over 200,000 admissions so far) was selected by the Annecy Animation Film Festival, and Roar Uthaug’s chiller Cold Prey [+see also:

has now sold almost everywhere, including the US (Leomax), France (Ninety Seven Films), Italy (AE Media), Germany (Telepool), Spain and Portugal (Notro Films), Poland (Carisma), Brazil and Mexico.
