Open Roads: New Italian Cinema in New York

Yesterday marked the opening of the seventh edition of Open Roads: New Italian Cinema (running through June 14) at New York’s Lincoln Center. Twelve recent films and a selection of shorts make up the event, a special project of the General Direction for Cinema of the Ministry of Culture , organized by Filmitalia and the Lincoln Center Film Society.

In the wake of the great success of past editions, and with a calendar of events expected to sell out this year as well, Open Roads has become the largest event dedicated to contemporary Italian cinema in the United States. The films are presented not only to New York audiences but to a selected group of US buyers who have a chance to meet the artists accompanying the films.

The Open Roads programme, selected by Richard Peña of the Film Society in collaboration with Antonio Monda of New York University, features four daily screenings from among the 12 films, which include Giuseppe Tornatore’s The Unknown [+see also:

, Davide Ferrario’s Primo Levi’s Journey [+see also:

, Roberto Andò’s Secret Journey [+see also:

, Paolo Sorrentino’s The Family Friend, Saverio Costanzo’s In Memory of Myself [+see also:

and the interesting documentary Vedi Napoli e poi muori (“See Naples and Die”) by Enrico Caria.

The delegation is made up of some of the actors and directors of the programmed films, led by maestro Mario Monicelli,who inaugurated the event with his latest film, Desert Roses.
