(see article) continues its successful run.

The film – which garnered a total 5.1m admissions in France – was released on eight screens in cinemas in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco by its US distributor Picturehouse on June 10. Grossing a remarkable $180,000 in its opening weekend, the feature starring Marion Cotillard (likely to be nominated for an Oscar for her role as Piaf), the title saw another 78 prints released in its second week and its box-office takings reach $670,000 after its second weekend, making it the second highest average grossing French production in the US behind the blockbuster Les 4 Fantastiques et le surfer d’argent.

The film’s successful performance last weekend with $737,000 after three days on 118 prints, bringing the total gross to date $3.9m, is expected to continue when it opens in approximately 60 cities across the US next weekend.

La Vie en Rose began its theatrical run on the UK market on Friday, with Icon releasing the title on 58 screens. Its £206,000 gross after only three days marks an exceptional performance for a French film in the UK, a territory that has traditionally been difficult to access (see interview with Elizabeth Conter). This adds to the £444,000 grossed after 10 days by Guillaume Canet’s Tell No One [+see also:

Next Friday sees the UK release of collective film Paris, je t’aime, still showing in the US on 164 screens (dist. First), and which has grossed $3.4m after eight weeks.
