A study by the Swiss Statistics Office (Office fédéral de la statistique) on the broadcasting of Swiss films on television has been published in German and French.

According to this new research, the number of films broadcast on the small and big screen between 2000 and 2005 was almost the same, with an annual average of 1,100 titles of all genres, formats and origins. In five years, 339 Swiss films for cinema and 772 for television were broadcast by the three national channels of SRG SSR idée suisse: Schweizer Fernsehen (SF), Télévision suisse romande (TSR) and Televisione svizzera di lingua italiana (TSI).

The number of SSR television films grew by 20% during the period, while that for cinema features rose by only 5.8%. While this is a satisfactory result in terms of diversity, a closer examination shows, however, that most of the films have no access to prime time slots or the main channels.

The study also shows an increase in viewers of documentaries at the expense of fiction, while audience ratings are gradually decreasing for features.
